Hypnobabies uses the same medical hypnosis techniques that people employ when preparing for surgery without any drugs, which is called hypno-anesthesia. Our classes also teach Hypnobabies Birth Partners how to fully support the Hypno-Moms, and Hypnobabies is also used very successfully by single mothers. A willing Birth Partner is a bonus!

Walking the halls was interesting. I was still having waves every few minutes, and they were very strong. I kept the headphones on as my MP3 player went through my Hypnobabies playlist. I was using the hypnosis well by then and leaning on Carl during waves in the hall. He did his part well by physically supporting me, offering me tea, and sending me to the bathroom when we passed one. On the cardiac floor, we really alarmed some people when it looked like I collapsed onto Carl during a wave. He firmly had to tell them not to call for anyone and that I was fine.

Sherri S. Come out baby track helped me, it has such great hypnosis suggestions and directions for my body to relax, release and open easily when it is safe for baby to be born! I listened to it for 2 days and my daughter came quickly and beautifully.
There are many great options for childbirth education in the Twin Cities. Childbirth education with a hypnosis component is an increasingly popular choice. We have seen hypnosis techniques help women decrease tension and fear during pregnancy and birth, leading to greater relaxation and confidence during birth.
Our colleague and friend, Aileen Larson, of Bywater Birth will be teaching weekend Hypnobabies classes at our clinic in Saint Paul. Each session is 6 weeks of comprehensive childbirth education with a hypnosis/relaxation component. Hypnobabies includes the hypnosis tracks and cds. The mamas we work with who take a hypno type childbirth education love these cds and audio files and use them to achieve restful sleep when insomnia is a problem,to decrease worry and anxiety in late pregnancy and to continue to reinforce positive ideas about pregnancy and birth.
Overall Hypnobabies is a great and thorough choice in a childbirth program. Be sure you can find time to dedicate to it every day (around 30 minutes a day for your CD tracks, and 30 minutes to an hour once a week for your lessons). Hypnobabies is a really empowering choice in home childbirth courses, I give it a high recommendation!
Birth Partners also have a integral role in the preparation process: listening to their own script on CD, reading the handouts and guiding the mother into deep relaxation with hypnosis scripts. Birth Partners are an invaluable part of the birth process since they help the mother to focus and concentrate on their birth hypnosis tools, as well offering emotional and physical support.
In our culture, expectations about childbirth are very much the opposite. For many generations we have been told that delivering a baby will be untold hours of painful, agonizing work, to be faced with fear and trepidation. We have all heard stories from well meaning friends and family that sent shivers up our spines, and so the legacy continues. We experience pain in childbirth, in part, because we very much expect to!

Instructors teach moms to release fear and decrease labor pain through self-hypnosis and guided imagery techniques. Hypnobabies classes are taught by local instructors in 6-week, 3-hour classes. You know having a baby will be life-changing, so you might be preparing yourself by attending classes and Googling just about everything to do with childbirth. You might also be thinking about alternative pain relief methods and labour techniques, like hypnobirthing.
This preparation tries to give pregnant women a positive view of birth and the belief that childbirth does not have to be painful. The aim is a shorter, more comfortable, easier labour, with less need for intervention or pain relief (Madden et al, 2016).
It improved women's emotional experience and outlook towards birth with less anxiety, increased satisfaction, fewer birth interventions, more postnatal wellbeing and a better childbirth experience overall (Catsaros, 2020). Other research has found that self-hypnosis promoted 'feelings of calmness, confidence and empowerment (Finlayson et al, 2015).'
So women who use self-hypnosis during labour are fully in control and aware of what is happening to them and to those around them. What hypnobirthing actually aims to do is help a woman focus and enhance her birthing experience.
